 North Crawley Little Book Library

North Crawley, March 2021 - Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small, little book swaps number more than 100,000 around the world in over 100 countries — from Italy to Brazil to Japan. Now, a new Little Free Library behind The Institute, North Crawley, MK16 9LH, will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.

Our little book library opened on 27 March 2021with a quiet memorial for family and a socially distanced charity collection for people to come and swap their first few books. Our Little Library has been handmade by local carpenter, Andrew Odell. It is a memorial library in memory of local lady, Debbie Squair (Temple) who passed away in 2018 in Willen Hospice. She lived for nearly 25 years in North Crawley, bringing up her 3 children here.

Debbie’s children have set up the library as a tribute for her as she loved to read and shared many happy memories in this village. “Our Little Free Library doesn’t just belong to us, it belongs to the whole village,” says Claire Odell. “It’s our hope that this Little Free Library will bring a little more joy, a little more community spirit and a whole lot more books to our community because reading and sharing books is so important.”

Little Free Library® (LFL) is a nonprofit organisation that inspires a love of reading, builds community and improves book access by fostering neighbourhood book-exchange boxes around the world. To learn more, visit LittleFreeLibrary.org

Thanks are due to Milton Keynes Council's Olney Ward Councillors who very kindly awarded some of their annual grant towards the costs of this project.
